The people behind Frostpinearcade's star charts

Frostpinearcade began on a long winter in Canada, when a few of us who had played browser space games for years realized we kept giving friends the same advice. Scout first. Fleet-save always. Pick a game whose clock fits your life. We decided to write it down properly, game by game, and to keep playing long enough to be sure of what we said.

We focus on space strategy and starship games because they are uniquely demanding to review. A shooter reveals itself in an evening; a persistent empire game reveals itself over weeks. That means slow reviews, real accounts and plenty of lost fleets along the way. We would rather publish six thorough reviews than sixty shallow ones.

Our reviewers come from different corners of the genre. One has kept OGame empires alive across several universes. Another prefers the cockpit and has flown more DarkOrbit hours than they would like to admit. Others joined via Pardus trade lanes and Starblast.io team matches. The arguments between them shape every score.

Juniper, our pine-green guide, is the voice of that shared experience: cautious, curious and always carrying a spare probe. When you see Juniper's advice on the site, it is the distilled lesson of a mistake one of us made so you do not have to.

01

Long enough to know

We play every game for at least two weeks on a fresh account before we score it, because the genre's real character only appears after the opening rush.

02

Facts we can stand behind

Every mechanic we describe is one we saw in play or confirmed in the game's own material. When we are unsure, we say so in plain words instead of guessing.

03

Ratings open to a counter-argument

Our four scores are opinions backed by reasons. If you disagree, write to us; good arguments change pages, and we note what changed and why.
